WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED BEFORE I HIRE?
Full DVLA driving licence: we cannot hire on a Provisional licence under any circumstances.
Your DVLA Check Code or your National Insurance Number.  We reserve the right to only hire to Oxfordshire residents, please bring proof of your local Oxfordshire address in the form of a Utility Bill or Council Tax bill, dated within the past three months.  Overseas visitors please bring proof of your accommodation booking.  All bookings are at discretion of the management.

CAN I HIRE WITH A FOREIGN LICENCE?
Yes, we will need your original licence, written in English, your passport, resident's permit and proof of your local Oxfordshire address while in the UK, hire is subject to the discretion of the management.  All foreign licences will need to be transferred to a DVLA licence after one year.

DO YOU HAVE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS?
Drivers can hire between 21-75 years old. 
Age 21-22 minimum two years driving on a clean FULL DVLA licence with no accidents or convictions.
Age 23 plus - one year's driving experience - minor endorsements acceptable, at the discretion of the management.
Age 25 : the following restrictions apply: for vehicle groups VA, VC, CC, CC+, CD, CD+, ECC, EV8 and EV9 all drivers need to be aged 25 and over.

CAN I ADD ADDITIONAL DRIVER?
Yes, all documents and checks need to be provided for each driver.  A charge of £7.00 per day to a maximum of £49.00 per hire will apply for each driver.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPENING HOURS?
We are open :
Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm
Saturday 8.30 am to 12.00 pm
Sundays 8.30 am - 9.30 am
Bank Holidays 8.30 am - 9.30 am

WHAT IS YOUR HIRE PERIOD?

Our daily hire period is 08.30 am to 08.30 am the next day only.  You may pick up and return between these times, but the full 24 hour period will be charged.   A charge of £10.00 for the first hour will be made for any inconvenience caused by late returns.  Thereafter the hirer will be charged the full daily rate.  3 days rate applies to any 3 consecutive days.  You can return the vehicle at any time throughout this period.

CAN I RETURN THE VEHICLE OUT OF OFFICE HOURS?

Yes, there is a 24 hour secure key drop, fully signed posted.  Park vehicles sensibly, without blocking in any vehicles to the front of the building, where customers park.

WHAT IS YOUR FUEL POLICY FOR PETROL, DIESEL AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES?

All vehicles run full to full, including electric vehicles.  Please check that the vehicle is full before leaving the premises, look out for your checkout email or please do take your own photo.  Fuel type is labelled on key rings and on the filler cap and on your contract of hire. Any vehicles returned needing fuelling will incur additional costs.

WHAT CHARGES ARE MADE IF A VEHICLE IS NOT RETURNED FULL OF FUEL?

A refuelling charge of £3.00 per litre (inc. VAT) will be made on vehicles not returned full. Re-charging of electric vehicles is charged at 60p per Kilowatt Hour.

DOES THE HIRE COVER INSURANCE?

Only hirers completing hire forms and providing correct documents are insured to drive.  Fully comprehensive cover is included in the hire rates with a deductible excess of £1,000.  Collision Damage Waiver is available at an extra cost of £20 (inc. VAT) per day which reduces insurance excess from £1,000 to £250.  The hirer is responsible for all overhead, tyre windscreen damage.  Interior / upholstery is not covered by the insurance or the CDW.

CAN I TAKE THE VEHICLE ABROAD?

A 33% surcharge is added to the current rates for continental hires to the European Union only and Southern Ireland.  There is a Green Card fee of £35 for the V5 substitute.  We will provide your foreign travel kit, charges will be made if these are not returned.  We recommend that continental breakdown cover is taken out.  Please see our information leaflet.

IS THERE A RESTRICTION ON MILEAGE?

There is no limit to mileage on hires.

DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY RETURNED VEHICLE?

The hirer is required to return the vehicle in the same clean state as it was originally hired out or there will be a cleaning charge.  No pets please.

 

DO YOU HAVE A CANCELLATION POLICY?

24 Hours notice is required before a cancellation, otherwise a full days hire will be charged.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?

If you prepaid for your vehicle the following conditions will apply :

  • You will not be charged a cancellation fee if you cancel your reservation 24 hours ahead of time

  • If you cancel your booking in less than 24 hours before your specified pick up time, you will not be entitled to a refund.

WILL I BE CHARGED IF I DON'T SHOW UP FOR MY RESERVATION?

If you fail to pick up your prepaid rental on the specified pick-up date, you will not receive a refund.

 

ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS FOR SOME VEHICLE GROUPS?

For vehicle groups VA, VB, VC, CC, CC+, CD, CD+, ECC, EV8 and EV9 all drivers need to be aged 25 and over.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET A PARKING CHARGE OR OTHER STATUTORY FINE?

Most traffic violations are unintentional, but It is the Hirer's responsibility to pay all parking, road tolls, speeding fines, red light camera, bus lane violations and any other penalties including congestion charge and Low/Ultra Low and Zero Emission Zone charges.  If you do not then once we are notified of the offence we will transfer liability to the Hirer (which may of course not be the driver at the time) which will incur a £30.00 administration fee, taken from the card we hold for the hirer of the vehicle.

 

WHY DO HIRES SOMETIMES GET UPGRADED?

Due to circumstances completely beyond our control it may be necessary to provide an alternative vehicle, of equivalent size and from the same group as the one booked, or provide an upgraded or larger vehicle at no additional cost. 

 

DO I NEED A D1 CATEGORY ON MY LICENCE TO DRIVE A MINIBUS?

Yes, For groups VB and VC, drivers must hold licence Category D1 on the licence.  Our 8 and 9 seater MPVs do not need this category, you also need to be over the age of 25 to drive any of our MPVs.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LEAVE SOMETHING IN THE VEHICLE?

We will hold your lost/uncollected items for 3 months before disposal.  Unclaimed items are donated to charity or sent for recycling.  Perishable items will be disposed of straight away.

CAN I DRIVE IN LONDON AND THE OTHER LOW/ULTRA LOW EMISSION ZONES?

Most of our vehicles are new and able to enter the LEZ/ULEZ without charge.  Please check with the relevant local authority to check their local laws and charges.

​

CAN I DRIVE IN THE OXFORD CITY CENTRE ZERO EMISSION ZONE (ZEZ)?

The ZEZ in Oxford City Centre is only for electric vehicles.  It is your responsibility to check signage and your route.  Check your vehicle online and pay to travel in the zone.  You will get a fine if you drive into this zone if you are not in one of our electric vehicles.

DO I NEED TO PAY LONDON CONGESTION CHARGE?

It is the Hirers responsibility to pay for daily charge and penalties this applies:

Monday to Friday 0700 to 1800

Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 1200 to 1800. 

The current rate is £15 per day (Feb 2024).

CAN I LEAVE MY CAR AT TVR SELF DRIVE WHILE I AM HIRING A VEHICLE?

We have limited on site Customer Parking at the front of our building.  All customer vehicles are parked at their own risk.  We do not take responsibility for your vehicle or its contents left at our site.

WHERE DO I RETURN MY SELF DRIVE HIRE VEHICLE?
Please note all returned vehicles should be parked either at the front of the building, without blocking any cars or in our rear car park as per the map below:
 
CAN YOU HIRE TO COURIERS?
I am sorry, we cannot hire to courier companies.  If you are found to be delivering parcels/packages/food in one of our vehicles then we will immediately terminate the hire.  
TVR Self Drive - Parking Map, location of vehicle drop off, key drop key box and DO NOT PARK at the rear of the unit - parking tickets will be issued.
